Matecha – Marathon “Splash” remix

Monday, February 14th, 2011

If you’ve never heard of it,  Marathon is a classic first-person-shooter game for the Macintosh platform, released in 1994.  The Marathon series is what really put Bungie Software “on the map”, and they were seen as one of the premiere developers on the Mac platform from the mid to late 90′s.

Anyway, I was a huge fan of their games and I’ve been involved in a few different projects over the years relating to the game (total conversions, maps, etc.) .  One of those things is a remix I did of the song “Splash” from the soundtrack for Marathon.  The original song is a MIDI music file by Alexander Seropian, one of the founders of Bungie and a key contributor to the Marathon games.

Without further ado, you can hear my remix (and check out a nice slideshow of Marathon-related artwork & screenshots) here:

Hope you enjoy.  I’ll be sure to have other game music remixes in the future (I already have a System Shock 2 remix which I am planning to post soon).

The elusive Maxis propeller hat from Macworld San Francisco 1996

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

I was recently going through some old belongings which included my old computer games from the mid 90′s (stuff like SimCity 2000, SimTower, Widget Workshop, WarCraft 1).  At the same time, I came across an old piece of Maxis merchandise which I can honestly say I have never seen anywhere else: a “beanie” propeller hat given out by Maxis at Macworld Expo San Francisco (MWSF) in 1996!

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

I just played through the first 26 or so levels in Lemmings. The original. Yeah, from 1991.  I feel kind of bad for all the people who played it on a machine running DOS, though..

Myst wallpapers for iPhone + iPod Touch

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Well, ever since the recent release of Myst for iPhone, I’ve played quite a few hours’ worth of gameplay.  Even though I played the game upon its initial release for Mac in 1993, it still feels pretty fresh to me since I have sort of intentionally play it only every so often, so as to not become “desensitized” to its unique charm, quality and – frankly – unprecedented feeling & ambience.

Anyway, I’ve been taking a lot of screenshots while playing, with the intent of creating wallpapers tailored for iPhone and iPod Touch.  This is the first batch, all featuring shots from Myst Island and the game intro and so on.
